The Cinema effect explores phosphenes that cause the effect known as Prisoner’s cinema. Prisoner’s cinema has been described as a “light show”, experienced when confined to a dark space. Its believed that the ‘cinema effect’ is an experience of phosphenes merged with this exposure to prolonged time spent in darkness. This particular body of work relates to periods spent in meditation. Like the work Deformations, Prisoner’s cinema is an entoptic (within-eye) experience.
